Using tutors in your classroom

Begins Saturday, September 29th at 9am Hunter College– Room 615 West
Faith Muirhead and Shanti Kantha

This workshop series will be run as a course meeting twice a month for the entire year. All Saturday meetings will be held at Hunter College and once a month a meeting will be held at individual High school sites at 4pm. Teachers who host tutors in their classrooms will be trained along side their tutors on how to implement effective co-teaching strategies in their classrooms. The topics for the co-teaching will range form effective teaching strategies to content-specific strategies for particular classes. Tutors will receive a combination of credit and an hourly rate for their participation. Each training session will be followed up with in-class visits from the facilitators to ensure appropriate implementation. Teachers will instruct tutors, observe tutors, provide feedback for tutors and reflect on their work with tutors. In turn they will have consistent HS and/or College UG tutors in their classrooms. Attendance at the training sessions is a requirement for hosting a tutor.
