Two TeachersOn Friday, March 16th the MSPinNYC ran two workshops on Cooperative Learning Strategies at Truman High School. Each of the workshops were divided in to two parts:

  1. Discuss the strategies
  2. See them in action in a classroom setting

The workshop was quite successful in getting teachers to think about how merely sitting students in groups was vastly different than teaching and assessing the skills needed to have a truly cooperative classroom.

Here’s the primer on cooperative learning that the MSPinNYC compiled.

PRIMER ON COOPERATIVE LEARNING

The document below describes group roles that are successful in building a group dynamic that works and is truly cooperative. Feel free to pare them down or tweak them in any way you think necessary. But again, be sure to take the time to explicitly teach them as well as assess how well groups are doing at integrating them into their work together.
